To start off this project, we first had to think of an issue we'd like to change. My issue was that many people were being lied to by the infamous white chocolate. Many people classify white chocolate as 'chocolate' (hence it's name) but it doesn't deserve that title since it doesn't have any chocolate traits.
After choosing an issue we had to do enough research in order to have evidence to prove that we are not just making things up.
Once we had all of the facts we needed, we had to figure out who we would write a business letter to. It had to be someone relevant to the issue, so I decided to write to the FDA. For they are the ones who are allowing for white chocolate to be classified as chocolate.
We then had to pair up with someone else to create a video on one of our issues. Israel and I both agreed on the chocolate topic. In order to create a video we had to create a script that wasn't going to be too formal to avoid boring the audience.
Once our script was approved it was time to record (my voice...we both agreed on that as well).
After recording (which was easier said than done) we had to Photoshop pictures to make them suitable for the video.
Once that was done we finally got to work on putting our video together. Aligning the pictures to the audio was surprisingly fun.
After all the time that we put into making sure our video was decent we both agreed that it was good enough for YouTube. You can see the final result down below.
Reflection
What I learned from this project was in order to have a good quality product there was to be a lot of patience. I'm not necessarily speaking about being in a partnership (because working with Israel was amazing) but all the tedious work when editing a video.
I took responsibility on making sure that we both worked an equal amount of time the video. For example, I wasn't there for a period due to a personal inconvenience, but I made sure to stay after school and during lunch to make up the time I wasn't there.
My advice to any student that will be doing this project would be to make sure to pick a topic you are REALLY interested in. It could be something like justice for chocolate or saving the animals. As long as you're passionate about it then you should be fine. Oh and don't be one of those people that just lets one partner do all the work because it's not fair. It's rude.
I think the teachers did a great job with how they managed the project. For example, Ross didn't assign us an issue, we got to choose it ourselves. Chris didn't tell us our video was incredibly bad, but gave us really helpful advice in how to improve it.
I honestly really liked this project so I don't think I would do anything to change it. But if I really did have to choose something to change I guess it would be the way the partnerships were made. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed working with my partner. But we both had entirely different topics. Maybe if the partnerships were based on how relevant the topics were, the other person wouldn't have to give up their own topic for the video.
