The book consists of our interviewees biographical narrative that we each wrote based on our interview. However, each biographical narrative included a historical background on events that may have impacted their experience during the time it took place (revolved around the 1950's-2000's). However, that is only for the first half of the book. The second half is focused on our own self reflection of the "American Dream". This part was done after we analyzed the ideal definition of the A.D, and our interpretation of it, now that we had the proper knowledge. My perspective drastically changed, as I've stated earlier, I used to have an expectation of some sort for what I wanted my life to be. But now, after knowing the reality aspect of it, I've come to terms that it would be for the best to just appreciate life for what it is. We don't deserve anything in this world, because life doesn't owe us anything, so who are we to have such high standards? Why can't we just be happy and appreciate the things we already have? We can't just approach situations that we have absolute no control over, with a pessimistic outlook. Being negative won't change anything, so instead we can look on the bright side and find ways to be grateful instead.

My Self Reflection Poem
Dreams Dissected by Reality Small wooden house, secluded from humanity Tall green grass, swaying in the breeze Sky invaded by clouds, it’s a breathtaking scene of insanity Soft and magical “wishing weeds” surrounding stubborn trees That was my one true dream A simple wanting, a pure desire, a clear ambition Contributing traits to the American theme We are determined soldiers on an endless mission Reality hits, opening eyes whilst exposing the American lie It’s an infinite cycle of dissatisfaction, we can’t escape it with a plead I know it’s a wilting hope that will remain unfulfilled until I die But the ignorant remain zombies reeking of greed My dream is no longer an image of what I think is ideal It has shifted into a humble idea that is attainable and fair It’s to live a life with grace whilst expressing my gratitude and that will reveal Happiness doesn’t have to be materialistic and rare |
