Throughout this project, we learned how to build our own telescopes, and what components are needed in order to do one. We also learned more about astronomy, (ex: galaxies, planets, stars, meteors, etc.). The telescope that Marina and I built was the Newtonian telescope. It's different than the Galilean and the Keplerian, because unlike both of those the Newtonian uses a mirror instead of a lens. The reason we chose to do the Newtonian was because we wanted to take on a challenge. We also wanted our telescope to have no chromatic aberration (chromatic aberration: has a small hue/tint of blue or red around the objective).
We are using our telescope to see a far away building.
Exhibition Reflection
My job for the telescope project was the headlamp window and being a part of the 'star mission'. I feel like I did a decent job on the headlamp window, but I still think that there was room for improvement in that area. I personally loved my other job, though. It's not everyday that you get the chance to staple stars to the ceiling. I feel like I did a good job with that one (along with everyone that took par in it as well. To be honest, it was pretty stressful getting everything together. We were having small panic attacks (because we weren't sure if we had enough glow in the dark spray paint, or if we even had enough time to achieve the look we wanted for the dark room). It was worth it, without a doubt. This was actually my favorite exhibition ever, (and I've been having exhibitions since 6th grade...so that says a lot). I was really happy with the way that the dark room ended up looking, there are just no words to describe how amazing it was.
