Perspective has become crucial to me, because I have come to realize that it is what influences one's actions and behavior. It also impacts the way that someone "consumes' the information they are being given. For example, when we were listening to Serial, there were some instances in which the podcast would appeal to Adnan, through the way that Sara Koenig presented her information (so that shaped the opinion as to whether Adnan was guilty or innocent). So now when I'm reading or listening to something, I try to see their reasoning behind it, instead of just accepting everything I'm being told (create an opinion and take a stand of my own).
The hardest part of the Perspective Project (for me personally) was the creative writing piece. Don't get me wrong, I love to write, especially poems. But I didn't know how exactly I was going to portray my partner's "nugget", when it wasn't my own. I don't know, I guess it's just easier for me to write for myself because I know I'll be satisfied with the final outcome (because I know if it's "fitting" or not). However, I can't say the same for my partner. What he told me was personal, and I didn't think that my writing would justify it (because I'm not him...). So what did I do? Well, I apologize in advance if this sounds dorky but: I mentally referenced some books I have read in the past in order to create a fictional character that might portray his story whilst being broad enough to be relatable for everyone else. I will admit to reading plenty of the many "typical high school" stories (that's a grand generalization there...I'm cringing) and that helped out a lot. I don't think that I've ever experienced "severe" bullying, but I have witnessed it before (through movies/media to seeing it first hand). But believe it or not, there are some things in the poem that I have felt myself...(different scenarios, but the same feelings nonetheless).
I don't know, this project just amplified the importance of perspective and the impact it has on the way that we perceive the world. Some examples heavily regard criminals; One may get a sense of compassion towards criminals if they were to shift their perspective because,"Murderers aren’t their own malevolent species, they are humans like ourselves, and sometimes we tend to forget that," (I'm quoting myself, from my In Cold Blood Essay...). In addition, one may even bring up the Marxist theory and say that most of the criminals are being forced into that lifestyle by society itself (poverty leads to drastic measures; why don't WE help them before they get to that point instead of deciding whether they should be put in death row or not). Hmm, maybe I'm asking for too much, but I kinda hope that people become much more understanding; be willing to look from the perspective of another instead of solely focusing on their own). I hope this causes and spreads a sense of awareness or something. I realized that there is much more than the eye can possibly see. Do not be afraid of delving into the deeper depths to get your own understanding; don't let your information be "hand me downs" (worn down to the person's liking before it was handed down to you).
