So the Into the Wild project was a really great experience for me. For this project, we read the book 'Into the Wild', by Jon Krakauer, which was about Chris McCandless/Alex Supertramp. The book itself was very inspiring and motivating towards getting involved in nature. We took a trip to Anza Borrego, where we used all of the equipment we made in Math/Physics. We got to be apart from our daily routines, and do many things that we aren't used to.
Headlamps
So the way that the headlamps work is by having wires making an electric circuit. All of the wires must be connected in order to keep the electric current going. It is a parallel circuit powered headlamp. Which means if one LED light goes out, then the rest of the LED lights will keep on shining.
Soda Can Stoves
We used the soda can stoves to cook our food at Anza Borrego. It was a transportable little furnace machine that helped the fire to keep on generating (while it had denatured alcohol), and it helped the flames to disrtibute evenly.
Compass
The reason a compass works, is because of the needle that's in the center of it. Believe it or not, it's actually a magnet. Which means that it has a north and south pole. The compass is always pointing north, because the south pole on the magnetic needle, is attracted to the earths north pole. As you can see below, our compass was never complete. The ho;e where the needle was going to be placed, was far too small.
Experience
My favorite part of this project was going to Anza Borrego. I had a lot of fun going over there because I had many new experiences. I got to make new friends (considering the fact that it was our whole team that went), and I appreciated nature more than before. I think that this was a great learning experience for us all. It was also pretty cool to use a headlamp at night, knowing that we made it ourselves. The most important lesson that I learned, was to learn to take everything in. Forget about any worries, and just take in your surroundings. Speaking of which, that made me become a much more grateful person, and it also pushed me more. Knowing all of that, kept me going even farther when we went hiking, because I wanted to see what the world had to offer.
