Blackout poetry was a small project we worked on. We read the writing of Langston Hughes, Let America Be America Again. We read it once, and afterwards, we read it again but much more thoroughly (analyzing each line and such). After doing so, we each made our own interpretation of it, and we were supposed to portray it using the words within the poem (along with a visual). How were we to do such a thing? Well we would "blackout' the words that we weren't planning to use, leaving only the words we sought to get our perspective across. Down below you can see my final product, and since the words are not as easy to distinguish, I'll include what I meant for it to say.
This right here is a really bad drawing of a dandelion. However, half of it is "Americanized" and set on fire, whilst the other is at its natural and pure state
Dreamers crushed by a land where liberty is false Equality nor freedom is free Dark scars clutch hope And eat the weak Tangled in power A way of satisfying greed Sold to a dream Meant to be torn Millions have a hope And a dream that's dead today Blood and pain Does stain Those who live in America Death and lies The people redeem
